Wooden Robot is an urban farmhouse brewery that draws inspiration from traditional Belgian farmhouse breweries. They are known for their innovative approach to American craft brewing, combining artistic creativity with scientific principles.
Wooden Robot was founded by Dan Wade and Josh Patton, who became friends in middle school. Their friendship blossomed over a shared interest in homebrewing. Dan Wade, with an engineering background, even went to Scotland to receive a master’s degree in brewing and distilling.
The brewery is inspired by traditional Belgian farmhouse breweries and the innovation of American craft brewing. The name ‘Wooden Robot’ itself symbolizes a blend of the traditional (wooden, representing high-quality ingredients and brewing tradition) and the innovative (robot, representing creative and unique brewing techniques). Their approach is to combine the artistic and scientific aspects of brewing, focusing on drinkability and the use of high-quality, often local, ingredients.
Over 95% of their malts are sourced locally from Epiphany Craft Malt in Durham, NC. This commitment supports local businesses and the overall economy. They also emphasize educating customers about the importance of local sourcing and craft malt certification in their marketing efforts

Update: in 2019 the brewery has expanded to extend the tasting room and seating area both inside and out.
