The Rare Barrel

Is this place still open? We think it might have closed, because its website stopped responding (checked 30 Aug 2026) and there have been no Untappd check-ins for over a year. Neither is proof, so the entry is still here.

Something else is wrong

A large space with a relatively small 7 seat bar, but lots of tables serves a dozen Rare Barrel taps including a couple of wines and an additional 16 guest taps.

Its a cool place and can also be cool in a way that its a good idea to have a jacket. Not because it is refrigerated; they chose Berkeley for its temperature range and seldom need to adjust the temperature for the barrel aging. Bottles are for sale and there was a membership pickup happening with a ton of boxed bottles being picked up while I was there. Foeders and barrels are all around the tasting area.

A Kitchen featuring experimental small plates with strong flavors was appreciated by the foodies in my group. There was a single projection television. As far as seating goes, there are about ten tables some couches and several chairs providing decent indoor seating options for this really large warehouse space.
